Your junior year should be one of exploration and narrowing your options
A. If you are strong in the areas of English and Math, you need to take the PSAT/NMSQT test. Students who score high on this test as a Junior may qualify as National Merit Finalists and receive scholarship $$$. It is given only one time in October nationally. Owasso will offer an alternate date of November 2, 2016.
B. Begin taking the ACT college entrance test! You may take it up to twelve times, and I would recommend Juniors test at least once. Application packets are in the counseling office or you can register on-line at www.actstudent.org.
C. If you are interested in one of the MILITARY ACADEMIES, you need to get started during your junior year.
D. You need to EXPLORE YOUR CAREER OPTIONS and determine what, if any, post-high school education is needed. For career information, explore the Oklahoma Career Information System at www.okcis.intocareers.org. The username is owassohs and the password is okcis495. The O*NET Interest Profiler is useful. Also, check out the occupational outlook handbook at www.bls.gov/oco.
E. Explore the possibility of taking courses at TULSA TECH next year as a senior. Usually, the year after high school graduation is free and there is a scholarship available as long as you continue in a program within the same area.
F. Begin to EXPLORE THE INTERNET both for careers and scholarship information for your senior year.
G. If you are in the OKLAHOMA PROMISE program, check with your counselor to make sure you are on track.
H. If you are interested in attending BOYS STATE OR GIRLS STATE, see your counselor during first semester.
When any questions come up for any reason, see your counselor.
HAVE A GREAT YEAR!
