Parenting & Child Development

This course is designed to provide basic knowledge of child development and to develop skills necessary to care for children and promote children’s development.

Students also examine the responsibilities of parenting, teen parenting, prenatal development, and the needs of a newborn. Students have the opportunity to plan for healthy eating during pregnancy and how to prepare for the baby’s arrival.  Students will be required to wear the Empathy Belly to simulate the body’s response to being nine months pregnant.

A variety of learning styles will be accommodated through various means of instruction such as, discussion, reports, cooking, group and individual work, projects and presentations.
