Prerequisites: Pre-Algebra

This course covers all essentials of first year algebra. The emphasis in this course is on teaching algebra as an aid to solving every day problems. Students will see the importance of mathematics in the world around them. These experiences include simplifying expressions, solving equations, inequalities, functions, and symbolic reasoning as well as introduction to quadratics. Students will be able to not only find the correct answer, but be able to discuss and defend how and why it is correct. They will develop mathematical reasoning by using symbolic and visual representations including graphs, tables, and verbal or written statements and algebraic equations to solve and communicate solutions in real-world situations. Algebra I prepares students for Geometry and Algebra II standards.
